The Beast of New Haven was an ice hockey team that played in the American Hockey League during the 1997–98 and 1998–99 seasons. The team was based in New Haven, Connecticut, and their home arena was the Veterans Memorial Coliseum, which was unfortunately demolished in 2007. The Beast had affiliations with the Carolina Hurricanes and the Florida Panthers. Prior to being called The Beast, this franchise went by the name of the Carolina Monarchs for the period between 1995 and 1997.[1]

after the Hartford Whalers left in 1997 to move to Raleigh, North Carolina, to become the Carolina Hurricanes the Carolina Monarchs moved to New Haven, Connecticut to become what was formerly known as the Beast of New Haven.
