Ben Maxwell (born Benjamin Maxwell on March 30, 1988) is a Canadian professional ice hockey centre who currently plays for Oulun Kärpät of the Finnish SM-liiga.

Playing CareerEdit

Ben was selected 49th overall in the second round of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft by the Montreal Canadiens.

On December 12, 2008, he was called up from the American Hockey League (AHL)'s Hamilton Bulldogs to replace an injured Saku Koivu in the lineup.

On December 18, 2008, Ben made his NHL debut in a game against the Washington Capitals.

On February 24, 2011, he was traded to the Atlanta Thrashers with Montreal's fourth round choice (which was later traded back to Montreal who selected Olivier Archambault) in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft for Brent Sopel and Nigel Dawes.

On March 27, 2011, Ben scored his first NHL career goal against Craig Anderson of the Ottawa Senators and was also named the first star of the game.

On June 21, 2011, he was transferred to the Winnipeg Jets after the Atlanta Thrashers franchise relocated.

On July 18, 2011, Ben signed a one year $715,000 contract with the Winnipeg Jets. On November 10, 2011, he was claimed off waivers by the Anaheim Ducks.

On December 6, 2011, he was claimed off waivers by Winnipeg. On July 6, 2012, Ben re-signed to a one-year, $650,000 contract extension with the Winnipeg Jets.

He was assigned to their AHL affiliate team, the St. John's IceCaps where he remained for the rest of the year, scoring 11 goals & 40 points in 74 games.

On August 12, 2013, Ben was signed as a free agent by Karpat Oulu in Finland with the intention to regain NHL interest.
