Bill Houlder (born William Houlder on March 11, 1967) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey defenceman.

In his NHL career, he appeared in 846 games, tallied 59 goals and added 191 assists.

Playing CareerEdit

Bill was drafted by the Washington Capitals in the fourth round (82nd overall) of the 1985 NHL Entry Draft.

After playing three seasons with the North Bay Centennials of the Ontario Hockey League, he joined the Capitals during the 1987–88 season.

On September 30, 1990 (after going back & forth between the Capitals and their AHL affliate team the Baltimore Skipjacks for three seasons), Bill was traded to the Buffalo Sabres before the 1990–91 NHL season in exchange for Shawn Anderson.

Bill remained with the Buffalo Sabres until June 24, 1993 when he was selected by the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim in the 1993 NHL Expansion Draft. He played for one season with Anaheim.

On August 9, 1994, he was traded to the St. Louis Blues in exchange for Jason Marshall.

On July 26, 1995, Bill was signed as a free agent by the Tampa Bay Lightning. On July 16, 1997, he was signed as a free agent by the San Jose Sharks.

On August 4, 1999, he was traded back to the Tampa Bay Lightning along with Andrei Zyuzin, Shawn Burr and Steve Guolla in exchange for Niklas Sundstrom and the New York Rangers' third-round choice (that was previously acquired and later traded to Chicago who selected Igor Radulov) in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.

On November 10, 1999, Bill was claimed on waivers by the Nashville Predators. He retired from the NHL after the 2002-03 NHL season.
