Kyle Clifford (born Kyle Frank Clifford on January 13, 1991) is a Canadian ice hockey forward currently playing for the Toronto Maple Leafs in the National Hockey League.
Kyle was selected by the Los Angeles Kings in the 2nd round (35th overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
Playing Career[]
Kyle played junior hockey with the Barrie Colts of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). He spent three seasons with the Colts, amassing 45 goals and 100 points in 184 games, also totaling 327 penalty minutes.
After the 2009-10 season, Kyle joined the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League (AHL) for the postseason.
In 2010-11, Kyle earned a roster spot with the Los Angeles Kings out of training camp. On December 9, 2010, he scored his first NHL goal against Miikka Kiprusoff of the Calgary Flames.
Clifford signed with the Ontario Reign of the ECHL during the 2012–13 NHL lockout, playing 9 games with the Kings' minor league affiliate until the conclusion of the lockout.
With teammate Tyler Toffoli, Clifford assisted on Alec Martinez's double overtime Stanley up-clinching goal in 2014 against the New York Rangers. It was his 24th game in the 2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs. While also having 1 goal and 6 assists for 7 points.
Skipping to the 2019–20 NHL season, Clifford's time with the Kings came to an end because he was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs along with Jack Campbell in exchange for Trevor Moore and 2 third-round picks in 2020 and 2021.
