The Lake Erie Monsters are a team in the American Hockey League. They began play when the dormant Utah Grizzlies (1995-2005) moved to Cleveland, Ohio. They are named after Bessie, a lake monster in the Lake Erie region. They replaced the Cleveland Barons (2001-2006), who moved to Worcester, Massachusetts and became the Worcester Sharks.
