Notes

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, The playoffs were held in two "hub" cities both in Canada; Edmonton, Alberta at Rogers Place, and Toronto, Ontario at Scotiabank Arena. The Conference Finals and 2020 was played at Rogers Place in Edmonton.[16] Due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[159] and the cross-border travel restrictions imposed by the Government of Canada, the league temporarily realigned this season into four divisions with no conferences. Consequently, the first two rounds of the playoffs featured intra-divisional matchups, with the higher seeded teams receiving home-ice advantage in those rounds. In the Stanley Cup Semifinals, the four remaining teams (one from each division) were reseeded based on their regular season records. After initially stating that the Campbell and Wales trophies would not be awarded this season,[160] the league decided in June 2021 that the Montreal Canadiens and Vegas Golden Knights would play for the Campbell Bowl and the New York Islanders and Tampa Bay Lightning would play for the Wales Trophy.[161]

Notes

  • Technically, there was no official "Conference Finals" prior to 1982. Prior to that time, all teams were pooled together and seeded for the playoffs. For example, the Calgary-Minnesota (1981) and Philadelphia-Minnesota (1980) series were not Campbell Conference Finals. Meanwhile, Minnesota was in the Wales Conference prior to re-alignment, meaning that the decision to call it the Campbell Conference Final was completely arbitrary on the part of the editor. The same holds true for the Eastern Conference.

Notes

  • The NHL's Western Conference was once known as the West Division. The West Division existed from 1967, when the NHL was made up of a single division, until 1974 when the league realigned its format into two conferences of two divisions each.
