Mathieu Biron (born April 29, 1980) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player who played over 250 games in the National Hockey League (NHL).
He is the brother of former NHL goaltender Martin Biron.
Playing Career[]
Mathieu was drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in the first round (twenty-first overall) of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft.
On June 20, 1999, he (along with Olli Jokinen, Josh Green and a first-round pick in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft (Taylor Pyatt) was traded to the New York Islanders in exchange for Bryan Smolinski, Zigmund Palffy, Marcel Cousineau and a 4th-round pick in the 1999 draft (Daniel Johansson). While with the Islanders, he played in 74 games with them.
On June 22, 2001, Mathieu was traded to the Tampa Bay Lightning (along with a second-round pick in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft) in exchange for Adrian Aucoin and Alexander Kharitonov) where he played in 36 games for the team.
On October 4, 2002, he was claimed off waivers by the Columbus Blue Jackets, but on the same day, he was traded to the Florida Panthers in exchange for Petr Tenkrat.
On August 9, 2006, the San Jose Sharks signed Mathieu as a free agent where he played for their AHL team, the Worchester Sharks.
On December 15, 2006, he was traded to the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for Patrick Traverse.
Mathieu's last season in the NHL came in the 2005-06 season when he made 52 appearances for the Washington Capitals. He then spent two years in the AHL, playing for the Worcester Sharks and Hamilton Bulldogs.
In the 2008-09 season, he signed with the Frankfurt Lions of the German top-flight Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL) for the 2008-09 season & moved to fellow DEL team Hamburg Freezers for the 2009-10 season
From 2010 to 2012, Mathieu played for the Thetford Mines Isothermic in the LNAH.

Mathieu represented Canada at the 2000 World Junior Championships where he was a WJC All-Star.
Personal Life[]
After his hockey career, Mathieu trained and studied to become a firefighter in Lévis, Quebec, Canada.
