Scott Bjugstad (born Barry Scott Bjugstad on June 2, 1961) is an American retired professional ice hockey forward who played 317 games in the National Hockey League (NHL) between 1984 and 1992.
Playing Career[]
During high school, Scott resided in New Brighton, Minnesota where he attended Irondale High School and helped lead the Knights hockey team to playoff victories.
After high school, he went on to a successful college career with the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers. He was also a member of the United States national hockey team during the 1984 Winter Olympics before turning professional.
Scott was drafted by the Minnesota North Stars in the 1981 NHL Entry Draft (181st overall) where he played for them for 5 years.
On December 17, 1988, he was traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins along with Gord Dineen in exchange for Ville Siren and Steve Gotaas.
Scott played for the Penguins for only a year before being signed as a free agent by the Los Angeles Kings on August 24, 1989. He played for the Kings for 3 years.
He later played for the Phoenix Roadrunners in the IHL for 2 seasons before retiring in 1993.
Post-Playing Career[]
From 1998 to 2000, Scott was the head coach for Blaine High's hockey team in Blaine, Minnesota.
