Thunderbug is the official mascot of the Tampa Bay Lightning. He is a black and yellow lightning bug that wears a jersey with the number 00. Thunderbug plays a bass drum to simulate a thunderclap and leads the pre-game ritual by drumming along to Thunderstruck by AC/DC. During the game, he usually walks around the stands, launching T-shirts to fans, and providing a bass rhythm during organized cheers and chants. In 2012, a video of Thunderbug spraying a fan of the Boston Bruins with silly string went viral. Less than a week later, a local television station confirmed that the female performer inside the Thunderbug costume was let go, but not exclusively for this incident.
