Tomas Tatar (born on December 1, 1990) is a Slovak professional ice hockey left winger for the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League (NHL).

Playing CareerEdit

Tomas was selected 60th overall in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft by the Detroit Red Wings.

He was also drafted 15th overall in the first round of the 2009 KHL Entry Draft by SKA St. Petersburg.

After signing a three-year entry-level contract with the Detroit Red Wings, Tomas played for their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate the Grand Rapids Griffins.

On December 31, 2010, he scored his first NHL goal in his first game against Dwayne Roloson of the New York Islanders, scoring a game-tying goal in the third period.

During the 2012–2013 season, Tomas played for three different teams. Due to the 2012–13 NHL lockout, he started the season with the ŠHK 37 Piešťany in Slovakia.

Following the NHL lockout, Tomas played for the Detroit Red Wings and ended the season with the Grand Rapids Griffins where he won the Calder Cup.

He also received the Jack A. Butterfield Trophy for the most valuable player of the 2013 Calder Cup playoffs.

On January 11, 2014, Tomas scored the go-ahead goal which would be the eventual game winning goal and then he honored his father who had passed away just a few days prior to the game.
