Trent Yawney (born on Trent G. Yawney on September 29, 1965) is a retired hockey defenceman, a former head coach of the Chicago Blackhawks and current assistant coach for the Anaheim Ducks of the National Hockey League (NHL).
Playing Career
Trent was drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks in the third round (45th overall) in the 1984 NHL Entry Draft.
In the NHL, he has played for the Chicago Blackhawks, Calgary Flames and St. Louis Blues.
Trent has also played for the SJHL Saskatoon J's, WHL Saskatoon Blades and the IHL Indianapolis Ice. He was also a member of the Canadian national men's hockey team.
Coaching Career
During the 1999-00 NHL season, Trent was an assistant coach of the Chicago Blackhawks. From 2000 to 2005, he was the head coach of the Norfolk Admirals of the American Hockey League (AHL).
On July 7, 2005, Trent was named the head coach of the Blackhawks. On November 27, 2006, he was let go and replaced by former NHL player & Blackhawks' assistant coach Denis Savard.
On January 10, 2012, he was named associate head coach of the AHL's Syracuse Crunch.
He led the team to a 22-14-2-4 record in the final 42 games to help the Crunch clinch a playoff berth for the first time since 2008.
Currently, he is now an assistant coach with the Anaheim Ducks.
